It is the Duluth Bethel honored to serve the recovery community. The recovery meetings that take place in our building exist because of those who attend them. The courageous and positive decisions that those in recovery make are some of the most important decisions in their lives. To that end, the Duluth Bethel is committed to providing our building for support meetings, and we will not desert that.
As most of you may know, the Bethel has residential beds that serve many who are in early recovery and who may have vulnerabilities. We are committed to the health and well-being of all of our residents, the recovery community, visitors, our staff and their families.
For the promotion of health and well-being in the face of the coronavirus and COVID-19, the disease it causes, we are temporarily suspending recovery meetings at the Bethel. We hope this will only be for a short period. Please remember that there are many support options in our community, including other individuals in recovery. You may want to exchange phone numbers with other people in recovery. It has been said that all it takes to have a meeting is to have two people in recovery, coffee and a resentment. It doesn’t have to be in person. Keep your lifelines close, and be sure to use them.
The virus that causes COVID-19 is spread primarily by respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how influenza is spread. It can also spread when people touch surfaces that have been contaminated by an infected person and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. Health officials have stressed the importance of everyone taking action to limit the spread of coronavirus. Some of these actions include:
- Practice social distancing.
- Stay home and away from others if you are sick.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue.
- Wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds with soap and water.
- Avoid touching your face throughout the day.
