The first Concert for Recovery drew hundreds of music fans for seven hours of celebrating recovery Sept. 25, 2021 along the Duluth harbor.

The concert was the debut for the event, which the Bethel and others in the Northland recovery community plan to make an annual celebration. Duluth Mayor Emily Larson came on stage outside the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center to welcome supporters and urge that the Concert for Recovery continue in 2022 and beyond.

“What a great event,” she said, noting that it was an appropriate recognition of the strong recovery community in Duluth and the region.

Bethel Executive Director Dennis Cummings said, “We couldn’t have asked for more from the bands, the mayor, the DECC, our sponsors and especially everyone who came out. This was a celebration that recovery works. We have wonderful recovery resources in our community. I want to thank everyone who made the Concert for Recovery so special.”

Bands played from 3:15p.m. to 10 p.m. The lineup was: Tom Wotruba, the Virgil Caine Band, South of Superior, A Band Called Truman and Big Wave Dave and the Ripples. Food vendors and representatives of recovery organizations also were present. Cummings thanked the DECC for allowing the concert to be a test for the center’s new outdoor venue along Harbor Drive.

“The DECC’s support gave this event strength and helped it take off,” Cummings said. “We look forward to being back next year.”

The Bethel is planning for the 2022 Concert for Recovery during National Recovery Month in September. If you or your organization is interested in participating or sponsoring, please contact us.
